Staff members at the Aranguez/St Joseph Constituency Office are already spreading the spirit of Divali with the launch of a Sari Drive, an initiative aimed at helping underprivileged residents access traditional East Indian wear ahead of the celebration.
One staff member, Tamara, explained that the initiative, which started two weeks ago, is giving those with gently used East Indian wear an opportunity to donate and share the joy of the season.
“But we have many of our constituents who cannot even afford a new Diwali wear. So this is really what it comes from. And then we have persons who, of course, may purchase new Divali wear every year. So this is where the idea came in that we, of course, can start an outreach programme, a give-back programme from persons right within the constituency to other constituents.”
