Guyanese students are receiving their results in this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) examinations, but We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Shadow Minister of Education and educator Dr. Gordon Barker is urging the Ministry of Education to go beyond celebrating top performers and publish a fuller picture of the nation’s educational performance.
Barker, who is also a teacher, congratulated the students who sat the examinations but said the country needs critical information about how the wider student population performed, particularly the number of students achieving the qualifications required to advance to tertiary education or improve their employment prospects.
“Equally important is the publication of this year’s matriculation rate. The nation deserves to know how many of our students secured five CSEC passes including Mathematics and English.”
