“Your life doesn’t have to be cutting grass and cleaning drains.” That was the message from Minister of Public Utilities Barry Padarath yesterday during the launch of the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) Future Leaders Internship Programme, a $2 million initiative aimed at preparing 600 young people for careers in the digital economy.
Speaking at the TSTT Hospitality Suite at the Queen’s Park Oval, Padarath, using bMobile’s slogan, said, “Life is on for over 600 of our young people in Trinidad and Tobago. Life is on in a much more purposeful way, creating opportunities of placing investment in a company that deals with the telecommunications sector, but also has a corporate social responsibility that has always been perceived as though it’s a gear into one direction.”
He emphasised that TSTT/bMobile has always been featured, “particularly whether it’s cricket or whether it’s Carnival. But to me today, the management, the board…..whose brainchild this was to realign the purpose of the company in terms of giving back to the people of Trinidad and Tobago by creating purpose, but more importantly using that purpose to create opportunity. Because what this then does: it creates the opportunity for over 600 young people in our country,” he added.
