As many as seven locally-based players from the recent friendly away to Bolivia have been retained in the Trinidad and Tobago men's football team squad for the Fifa Series matches against Venezuela and Gabon on March 27 and 30.
Interim coach Derek King announced his 24-man squad for the matches in Tashkent, Uzbekistan earlier today, with goalkeepers Jabari Brice and Teshorne Ragoo, 18-year-old defender Adam "Toka" Pierre, and the midfield quartet of Daniel David, Jaheim Faustin, Shervohnez Hamilton, and playmaker Lindell Sween being the seven locally-based players retained after the 3-0 defeat away to Bolivia on March 15.
Of course, the Bolivia friendly fell outside the Fifa window, with Brice and Toka putting in solid shifts on an otherwise disappointing day for the TT team. With King now having access to most of his foreign-based players in a designated Fifa window, regulars such as Russian-based striker Levi Garcia, goalkeeper Denzil Smith, utility player Noah Powder, forward Nathaniel James and defenders Rio Cardines and Deron Payne return to the setup. There have been recalls for players such as Dantaye Gilbert, Duane Muckette, Reon Moore and John-Paul Rochford, all of whom last played for TT at the Unity Cup in May 2025.
There is also a new face in King's camp in 21-year-old Orlando City B defender Jaylen Yearwood. King will have the services of the fit-again New York Red Bulls striker Roald Mitchell, who pulled up lame briefly into his TT debut against Jamaica in a World Cup qualifier in November. However, the interim coach will be without the Major League Soccer (MLS) trio of Kobi Henry and wingers Dante Sealy and Tyrese Spicer. Henry, who quickly became a fan favourite at centre back in the qualifying campaign, has been ruled out through injury, while both Sealy and Spicer requested to be excused from the camp.
Also being excused from the camp is rugged defensive midfielder Daniel Phillips, with both Jesse Molik Khan and Andre Raymond joining Henry on the injury list.
King said his squad has a good mix of experience and potential, and he believes it's one that will foster good internal competition.
"This is our first official camp since the World Cup qualification campaign, and the focus is clear: growth, unity, and improving as a team," King said, via a TT Football Association (TTFA) release.
"We're coming up against two very good opponents in Venezuela and Gabon, and we see this as a valuable test. Our objective is to compete, represent the country with pride, and continue laying the foundation as we move towards the (Concacaf) Nations League."
The local contingent is set to leave TT on March 22, with the overseas-based players going directly to Uzbekistan in preparation for the Fifa Series.
