KINGSTON, Jamaica—An independent assessment has found that 58 per cent of the architectural elements of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) are obsolete, and 70 per cent of its electrical panels are in poor condition.
The assessment also found that the downtown Kingston facility, which is the largest of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean, occupies about 15,000 square metres of space, against a requirement of about 75,000 square metres.
This was shared by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton on Tuesday during a statement in the House of Representatives, where he told his fellow lawmakers of the Government’s plans to construct four new public hospitals.
