PATRIOTIC Front leader Mickela Panday has refuted allegations that her emerging party was being secretly funded by the People’s National Movement (PNM), calling the claims “desperate attempt,’ and a “low” move to undermine it ahead of the general election.
Speaking while presenting the party’s candidates on Sunday, Panday, the daughter of late prime minister Basdeo Panday, aimed her response at members of the Opposition United National Congress (UNC)—the party which he founded and led until his replacement in 2010.
Panday denied any association with the PNM, calling such rumours an attempt to thwart growing momentum. She, in turn, questioned the funding of both major political parties, the PNM and the UNC, and said the Patriotic Front was willing to open all of its accounts to public scrutiny.
