(Kaieteur News) – Surinamese authorities have rejected a 384.8-tonne shipment of rice from Guyana and ordered that it be returned to the country of origin after discovering that the importer had failed to obtain the required authorisation before taking the agricultural product into the country.
Suriname’s Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (LVV), Mike Noersalim, told Starnieuws that the shipment entered the country without the importer completing the mandatory authorisation procedure with his ministry.
Part of the cargo had already been cleared and removed from the port by customs when LVV authorities discovered that the required permissions had not been obtained. The cleared portion was subsequently ordered returned to the port.
