PEOPLE’S National Movement (PNM) mayors have complained of drastic cuts in allocations in the 2026 budget and have pointed to the disparities in the allocations to PNM-controlled corporations and UNC-controlled corporations.
Diego Martin mayor Akeliah Glasgow-Warner took to Facebook to make the comparisons between the treatment of PNM-controlled and UNC-controlled corporations and noted that while both the Chaguanas Borough Corporation and Diego Martin Borough corporations received $17 million for their development programmes under the PNM in 2025—Chaguanas getting $17.2 million and Diego Martin $17.4 million—in the 2026 budget, the Chaguanas has been allocated $37 million, an increase of $20 million, while Diego Martin has been allocated $11 million, a decrease of $6 million. This, even though Diego Martin has ten electoral districts, while Chaguanas has eight electoral districts, she said.
Point Fortin mayor Clyde James also flagged the disparity in allocations yesterday.
