For several UNC members, this would be their first time being members of parliament, while others who have been in the trenches for years have moved to new constituencies. Newsday asked four of the newly-elected MPs on April 30 what their plans were for their constituencies.
Aranguez/St Joseph MP Devesh Maharaj, who won with 9,908 votes to former MP Terrence Deyalsingh’s 6,672 votes, said he had visited most, if not all, areas of the constituency.
“We listened to all the constituents and different areas would have different issues and challenges. We have created a constituency manifesto which will be the template from which we will be trying to address those issues and challenges.
