An Icacos fisherman drowned when he attempted to swim to shore in rough sea conditions on Thursday.

The deceased, who was initially identified as “Johnny”, aged 61, was a veteran fisherman.

Police were told that the tragic incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. when Johnny, who was a member of a three-man crew, went out to sea in a vessel to retrieve a fishing net.
