Heaps of Sargassum seaweed have again smothered the East Coast, blanketing much of the region’s beaches from Mayaro to Guayaguayare over the past few days.
Raymond Cozier, chairman of the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation (MRCRC), told the Express yesterday that as large volumes of the algae recently washed ashore in Tobago, Eastern Trinidad has seen a similar influx that has spread straight across most of the beaches.
In April, Mayaro had seen a significant quantity of sargassum covering its shorelines.
