THE MINISTRY of Health is investigating a malaria outbreak in South Trinidad, where five cases have been confirmed as of April 2.
The cases, linked to a single primary source, account for the only reported malaria infections in TT so far this year.
The ministry noted in a media release on April 2 that malaria is not endemic to the country, meaning it does not naturally occur here. Most cases are either imported or introduced, often by individuals who have travelled to regions where the disease is prevalent.
