Aleja Gould-Ferguson and Kadeem Graham are the new Junior and Senior Calypso Monarchs of the Chaguanas Borough Carnival Committee.
Gould-Ferguson, 18, claimed the Junior Monarch title with Fix Yuh Front Page, a powerful song written by Brian London. The piece urged newspaper editors to highlight national achievements instead of filling headlines with crime and violence. A resident of Diego Martin and a student of Bishop Anstey High School, she will compete as an adult for the last time this year.
Graham won the Senior Monarch title with Just a Voice Away, which addressed social struggles and mental health issues. He is from Spring Village, Mt Dor.
