Ralford Mullings picked up the first win by a Jamaican at the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, after capturing the men's discus title on Friday.
Representing Oklahoma University, Mullings, the defending champion, made it back-to-back victories in the event with a throw of 65.81 metres. Last year's fourth-place finisher, Racquil Broderick of the University of South Carolina, improved on that placing to finish second like he did in 2024 with 64.15m. Two other Jamaicans finished in the top six, as Christopher Young of Arkansas was fifth with 62.30m, the same distance achieved by Shamar Reid of Florida State, who ended sixth.
Jamaican athletes also secured top-three finishes in the men's 800 metres, where Arkansas teammates Tyrice Taylor and Rivaldo Marshall finished second and third, respectively. Taylor produced a personal best 1:44.30 for second, while Marshall was third in 1:44.93, as Colin Sahlman of Northern Arizona won in a personal best 1:44.22.
