Two foreigners held over illegal mining along Siparuni Riverbank

(Kaieteur News) – Three miners, including two non-nationals, have been detained following the discovery of an alleged illegal mining operation along the Siparuni Riverbank.

The Ministry of Natural Resources said the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Enforcement Team discovered machinery positioned on the riverbank, with a river dredge directed into the bank to extract minerals.

The operation resulted in damage to the riverbank, with the GGMC now assessing the extent of the environmental damage. The enforcement team seized the dredge and other equipment used in the operation, including a motor vehicle. The matter has since been handed over to the Guyana Police Force for further investigation.
