The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is encouraging persons who have never been registered at birth to take advantage of its Operation Birthright programme, which assists eligible individuals in securing legal birth registration.
Manager for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics at NIRA, Monique Morris, said the initiative provides a pathway for persons who were never registered to establish their legal identity and access important services and opportunities. Morris explained that individuals who believe they were never registered at birth can apply through NIRA’s website at https://nira.gov.jm/ or visit any NIRA office for assistance.
As part of the process, NIRA first conducts a search to confirm that there is no existing birth registration for the applicant.
