A GROUP of retired police officers, who served during both the 1970 Black Power Revolution and 1990 attempted coup, have appealed to the Government to review the pensions being paid to former members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, saying many retirees are struggling to survive on monthly payments of approximately $3,500.
Speaking with the Express on Friday, members of the group said many retired police officers who left the service more than 26 years ago were now in their late 70s and early 80s and were facing increasing financial hardship amid the continuous rise in the cost of living.
One retiree, who asked not to be named, said officers who served during periods of national unrest risked their lives in defence of the country and successive governments, while often leaving their own families vulnerable.
