“AS for me, it has been an upward struggle for seven years to have him removed as CJ, so I say to him good riddance.”
So said president of the Criminal Bar Association, Israel Khan, SC, in reacting yesterday to the announcement by Chief Justice Ivor Archie that he’s retiring in this current law term. Speaking to reporters at his Abercromby Street, Port of Spain office, Khan accused Archie of being compromised during his tenure.
“Chief Justice Ivor Archie was obviously compromised in that he got close to the last administration, especially former prime minister Dr Keith Rowley. He had a personal relationship with prime minister Rowley and thus no way Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Attorney General John Jeremie would have allowed him to stay in the office as CJ,” Khan said.
