Cricket West Indies (CWI) chief executive officer Chris Dehring has renewed his call for changes to the financial model underpinning international cricket, describing the current system as unfair to the West Indies given that the region’s ability to generate revenue is severely constrained by its small markets.
Dehring, speaking on Wisden’s The Scoop podcast recently, said the West Indies earned nothing from the tour of India, which ended over the weekend, despite the matches estimated to potentially generate between US$20 million and US$30 million in revenue, which the hosts are not obligated to share with the touring team.
The Windies pushed the hosts in a high-scoring, record-breaking five-match T20I series which ended in a 2-2 draw in Bangaluru after rain scuttled what was expected to be a blockbuster finale.
