A SHARK75 C130J US military heavy transport aircraft landed at the ANR Robinson International Airport in Tobago yesterday.
The landing came a day after the Government announced that it had granted approval for United States military aircraft to transit Trinidad and Tobago’s airports in the coming weeks. On Monday night during a PNM political meeting in Black Rock, Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Minority Leader Kelvon Morris warned a political meeting in Tobago about the country facilitating the radar as well as US military planes at both airports. “I am saying to you that development is no longer something we can ignore. That development for us here in Tobago is really about in a real sense life and death,” he said.
He said the present circumstance facing Tobago is one of concern, “because you see whenever big powers and conflicts start to move around small places like Tobago you must pay attention. You see we in Tobago have been extremely concerned about this development because the Prime Minister, without our consent, without any consultation, without any consideration for the people of Tobago, decided to place one of those military assets, that military radar right here in Tobago.”
