Former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has broken his post-retirement silence to respond to what he describes as a “daily diet of misinformation and outright untruths” from the United National Congress (UNC)-led administration. In a Facebook post published on Saturday, Dr. Rowley addressed three contentious national issues: the University of the West Indies (UWI) Debe campus, Tobago autonomy, and the school construction programme.
Dr. Rowley, who served as Prime Minister from September 2015 to March 2025, said he was compelled to intervene in order to “protect the record” of his People’s National Movement (PNM) administration.
The Debe campus of the UWI was originally conceived under the People's Partnership administration led by then Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Intended to house a Faculty of Law and expand tertiary education access in south Trinidad, the campus later evolved to include facilities for medical and other disciplines.
