(Kaieteur News) – Some $175.6 million in loans were cancelled for 204 persons in the first half of 2026, under the University of Guyana (UG) student loan debt write-off programme.
This was disclosed by the Ministry of Finance in its 2026 mid-year report which was released on Monday.
The $175.6 million write off, brings the total loans written off to $3.2 billion since the programme began in 2024. It was presented in this year’s budget that since the programme began, more than 4,000 persons benefitted.
