Not Every Voyage Has an Ithaca… A daughter’s grief for those lost at sea in MV Barima Tragedy

(Kaieteur News) – Growing up, I had a strong interest in Greek Mythology; I found the tales humorous, some magical, and others insightful, with valuable lessons I could adapt in life. One of my favourites was the tale of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, fighting to get home after the Trojan War; a journey that should have taken two weeks took him 10 years.

This tale was brought to screens all over the world, and I was thrilled to go see it.

Saturday 18th July, 2026, I went to watch The Odyssey, a film whose visuals and cinematography showed storms rising and oceans becoming larger than scenery an ancient story about survival, about a man trying desperately to make his way home. A vivid retelling of Homer’s epic tale.
