(Kaieteur News) – Police are investigating a boat incident which occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, between 09:30hrs and 10:00hrs, approximately 1,000 metres southwest of the Parika Stelling.
The vessel was captained by a 52-year-old man of Bartica and was travelling from the Bartica Stelling to Parika with 30 persons on board, including the bowman.
Initial enquiries revealed that as the vessel approached Parika, it encountered rough waters, which reportedly damaged its bow and caused water to enter the boat. The captain subsequently managed to steer the vessel to safety, bringing it ashore along the eastern riverbank.
