Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls will hope to rebound against Uganda in the Commonwealth Games netball competition on Monday after they went down by five goals, 48-53, to New Zealand in their second Pool B Preliminary Round game at the Hyra Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
A day after the Jamaicans beat Trinidad and Tobago 81-22 in their opening game, they were held in check by New Zealand who took a measure of revenge after losing to them in the semi-finals four years ago.
Led by Grace Nweke, who scored 47 goals from 56 attempts, New Zealand led by two goals after the first quarter, 14-12; they were up by one goal, 26-25, at halftime; and were ahead 39-35 going into the final period.
