Police in Siparia are investigating the death of Shanta Kissoon, 49, an art teacher at Debe Secondary School and mother of two.
Kissoon, of Deoraj Trace, Mendez Village, was found unresponsive at her home on Saturday. According to reports, officers of the Siparia Police Station responded to a call at around 7:19 a.m. Upon arrival, they met Kissoon’s 73-year-old mother, Tara Deonath, who said her daughter had gone to bed around 8 p.m. on Friday.
Deonath said that when she checked on Kissoon at 4:30 a.m., she noticed her daughter was convulsing. Although Kissoon was initially breathing, she became unresponsive, and by around 6:30 a.m., she had stopped breathing. Deonath and a nearby relative contacted police after unsuccessful attempts to reach emergency services.
