(Kaieteur News) – When dem boys used to go to school, dem teacher was like God. Dem word was stronger dan a judge. Nobody dare question what a teacher say or decide. And if yuh went home and complain to yuh parents, yuh sure to get a good flogging. So nuff of we used to tek we licks and insults at school and stay quiet when we go home for fear of a second round of licks.

Sometimes dem teachers did gat to protect dem students from dem parents. Dem boys remember de case well of a former judicial official who father went into he school and give he a sound cut tail. De poor child get traumatized. And dem boys always feel dat he haughty and arrogant attitude of de man today is part of de aftershocks of he childhood experience.
