State funding for Eid celebrations has been increased this year by $.3 million and will be given to more Islamic organisations, Legal Affairs Minister Saddam Hosein said yesterday.
Hosein said the Cabinet had approved a total of $1.3 million for 22 Islamic interests, to assist in their observation of Eid today.
Speaking yesterday at the post-Cabinet news conference at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s, Hosein said the grant amount was increased from $1 million in 2025, which was issued to 12 groups that year. He said the increase meant funding for more jamaats, non-governmental organisations and others this year, and would benefit the needy.
