Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister, Susan Rodrigues has highlighted the continued growth of Guyana’s tourism sector, while recognising the role of creatives, entrepreneurs and cultural ambassadors in supporting economic development, preserving cultural identity and promoting the country internationally. Rodrigues made the remarks during the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) Annual Awards Dinner and Auction 2026, which brought together stakeholders from across the tourism and hospitality sector to honour individuals, businesses and organisations contributing to the industry’s development.
Themed, “Fashion Forward with a Touch of Drama,” the event focused on the intersection of tourism, culture and creativity and underscored the role of the Orange Economy in enhancing visitor experiences and strengthening Guyana’s tourism product. The Minister said the continued expansion of the tourism industry presents opportunities to further integrate fashion, arts, entertainment and cultural expression into the visitor experience, creating offerings that help distinguish Guyana as a destination.
The programme featured a keynote address by Melissa Noel, who examined the links between fashion, culture and tourism and explored opportunities to elevate Guyana’s creative identity internationally. Additionally, THAG President Mitra Ramkumar also addressed attendees, reflecting on the progress of the tourism and hospitality industry and reaffirming the association’s commitment to collaboration and the advancement of the sector. During the evening, Rodrigues was presented with the 2026 Tourism Impact Award for Culture, Sport and Entertainment in recognition of the successful return of the Guyana Festival in May. The Tourism, Industry and Commerce Ministry in extending congratulations to THAG, all nominees and award recipients, said it looks forward to continuing its partnership with stakeholders to advance Guyana’s tourism sector and strengthen its contribution to national development.
