Trinidad and Tobago nationals applying for U.S. visas or immigration benefits could soon be hit with significantly higher fees under sweeping new legislation championed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The bill, titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” passed in the U.S. Senate on July 1 and now awaits a final vote in the House of Representatives. If signed into law, it will raise billions in new immigration-related fees, with Caribbean nationals among those most affected.
According to the U.S. Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the bill could add $3.3 trillion to the U.S. national deficit over the next decade. To offset that, the legislation proposes a slew of new charges and increases to existing fees in the visa, asylum, and immigration process.
