Jamaicans living with disabilities are set to get a much-needed financial break when it comes to healthcare costs, following a major move by the National Health Fund (NHF) that could slash the price of medication, medical supplies and diagnostic tests by as much as 95 per cent.
The new benefit, which took effect on September 30, is aimed at persons with disabilities who are registered with the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) and qualify for an NHF card. Under the initiative, beneficiaries will now receive double the standard NHF subsidy on eligible claims, easing the burden of managing chronic illnesses and ongoing medical expenses.
Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton described the initiative as part of the Government’s commitment to ensuring that every Jamaican has equal access to healthcare services.
