(Kaieteur News) – As His Majesty King Charles III conducted diplomatic engagements during his visit to Guyana, traditional leaders representing Region Eight’s Potaro-Siparuni area submitted a formal petition seeking Royal acknowledgment and international support for unresolved Indigenous land claims.
The appeal, drafted by the North Pakaraimas District Council (NPDC), which represents the Patamona and Macushi peoples, draws attention to historical commitments made during Guyana’s transition from British colonial rule and calls for greater recognition of Indigenous customary land rights.
The NPDC’s correspondence, dated October 30, 2026, references the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Guyana and the United Kingdom. It also invokes the legacy of Indigenous leader Stephen Campbell, who travelled to London in 1965 to advocate for the protection of ancestral lands ahead of Guyana’s independence.
