FORMER health minister Dr Fuad Khan has recommended the removal of senior nurses who facilitate favouritism in staffing “pools”, which allow call-outs to earn overtime in the public health service.
Khan has also suggested that some health sector woes would be easier to solve if the Regional Health Authority Act was removed from under the Industrial Court, and matters were processed through the regular judicial system.
Speaking on TV6’s Morning Edition programme yesterday, he also empathised with some issues facing nurses and workers in the public health sector. A number of demonstrations and controlled work action have been staged by nurses at several hospitals in the past week, including the Sangre Grande Hospital and Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.
