A 17-year-old student of Rio Claro East Secondary School, Jaeden Deveaux of Church Street, Mayaro, was pronounced dead early Sunday morning after experiencing severe reactions to an over-the-counter medication.
According to his mother, Rhea Deveaux-Edwards, Jaeden had been complaining of flu-like symptoms with a slight fever for three days. Last Friday, a family member gave him a ‘virus pack’ intended to ease his symptoms.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jaeden was found gasping for breath, frothing at the mouth, and unresponsive while seated in his room. He was rushed to the Mayaro Health Facility, where doctors attempted resuscitation but was unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at 3:42 a.m.
