(Kaieteur News) – Hemat Kumar Mohamed, the man who confessed to stabbing his wife and dumping her body in a canal at De-Groot Enkline, Uitvlugt, was found dead in his cell at the Leonora Police Station on Friday, less than 24 hours after his arrest.
Mohamed, whose age was not disclosed by police, was taken into custody on Thursday, following the discovery of his wife’s body, 46-year-old Shavanie Hanoman, floating in a canal near their home. He subsequently confessed to stabbing her and pushing her into the canal during an argument on Wednesday, the last day she was seen alive.
Following his arrest, Mohamed was transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital for medical treatment at approximately 18:00h. He was discharged at around 23:40 hours and returned to his cell at the Leonora Police Station.
