Harry Maguireâs controversial goal, which put Manchester United 2-1 up against Ipswich Town in the English Premier League yesterday, is still being debated globally, with many arguing that the goal should have been ruled out and the promoted side awarded a free kick.
Former FIFA referee and now instructor, Peter Prendergast, has joined those saying it is a handball â and the goal should have been disallowed.
In quoting directly from the rule book, Prendergast stated, âIf it scores in the opponentsâ goal directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper, immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental. Handball.â
