Top cop rejects claims of unpaid police allowances

Commissioner of Police Sonia Boyce has rejected claims surrounding the non-payment of extra duty allowances to police officers, saying a processing problem with electronic pay sheets has instead resulted in payment discrepancies.Boyce was responding to comments by Winston Clark on his Come Out Things social media platform. Clark said officers had worked overtime and flexible responsibility duties and were advised that money owed to them would not be available because of an issue with the payment portal.The Commissioner said allowances submitted for duties performed in June had been paid, while payments for July and August were due in September.She acknowledged, however, that there was a problem uploading electronic pay sheets. As a result, some officers were overpaid, others underpaid and some received the correct amounts.Boyce said affected officers would be contacted individually by the Accounts Department and advised of the action being taken.She said Clark was spreading misinformation and maintained that the issue did not result from a decision to withhold payment for duties performed.
