Agriculture minister and Christ Church South MP Dr Shantal Munro-Knight has urged stronger safeguards for workers’ rights, warning that gaps in wage protection and impersonal payroll systems are leaving some employees vulnerable to hardship.

As the Protection of Wages Bill went through its second reading on Tuesday, Dr Munro-Knight said there is an imperative to safeguard vulnerable employees and modernise labour standards without stripping workers of their dignity or agency.

She highlighted Section 19 of the bill, which mandates that employers provide notices to workers with special needs using accessible methods of communication. This measure builds upon the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, moving beyond physical infrastructure adjustments to transform administrative processes, she said.
