The EnÂviÂronÂmenÂtal ManÂageÂment AuÂthorÂiÂty (EMA) has inÂstalled four new sea turÂtle nestÂing signs along ManÂzanilÂla Beach, as part of onÂgoÂing efÂforts to enÂhance pubÂlic awareÂness and proÂmote the proÂtecÂtion of critÂiÂcal nestÂing habiÂtats.
AcÂcordÂing to the EMA, ManÂzanilÂla Beach is a viÂtal nestÂing ground for the leatherback turÂtle—one of five species of sea turÂtles that nest in T&T durÂing the anÂnuÂal nestÂing seaÂson, which runs from March to AuÂgust.
All five species are desÂigÂnatÂed as EnÂviÂronÂmenÂtalÂly SenÂsiÂtive Species (ESS) by the EMA. The beach alÂso falls withÂin the NarÂiÂva Swamp ManÂaged ReÂsource ProÂtectÂed Area, a naÂtionÂalÂly desÂigÂnatÂed EnÂviÂronÂmenÂtalÂly SenÂsiÂtive Area (ESA).
