A 14-year-old girl baking a pizza accidentally triggered a house fire at Upper L’Anse Mitan Road, Carenage on Sunday morning, causing damage but no injuries.
Around 10:30 a.m. the teenager opened the oven door, igniting flames from a leaking gas tank stored inside a kitchen cupboard. The fire spread to the ceiling of the ground-floor kitchen, prompting The teenager called her mother who was at the hospital preparing to give birth. The mother then alerted Fire Services.
Firefighters from the Four Roads Fire Station, led by Ag/Fire Sub Officer Seale, responded and contained the blaze. However, water damage from firefighting efforts affected both the kitchen and living room. Officers PC Gibbs and PC Noel from the Carenage Police District were also on the scene.
