Minister Stuart Young said his Government is going to “insist that the Police Service and those who are charged with the responsibility, treat our women with dignity” when they come to make reports of domestic violence and other crimes at the police station.
He was speaking at the People’s National Movement (PNM) public meeting at Bournes Road, St James, on Wednesday night.
Young said the PNM Government was committed to working on and providing better protection for women and children and to addressing gender-based violence. He said Minister of Gender Affairs Ayanna Webster-Roy had worked hard with NGOs and the State and “we have increased the number of safe houses, the number of transition homes, the number of areas for women who unfortunately are subject to this heinous type of violence on women and children, so they have a safe space”.
