Guyanese families face delays as U.S. pauses immigrant visa interviews

The Donald Trump administration has temporarily paused immigrant visa appointments at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide as it retrains consular officers to apply tougher standards to people seeking to move permanently to the United States.
The State Department said this week that visa-service appointments are being adjusted as part of a global training initiative. The department has not said when normal immigrant visa appointments will resume.
The pause does not apply to all U.S. visas. Tourist, student and other temporary visas are not covered by the immigrant-visa suspension. Immigrant visas are used by people seeking permanent residence, including many applicants sponsored by relatives in the United States.
