KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Citizens’ Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) has written to chairmen of three municipal corporations reminding them that they could be found wanting if challenged on depriving thousands of citizens’ constitutional rights to choose their own political representatives.
The organisation said it reminded the leaders of the St Thomas, Westmoreland, and Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporations of their failure to take steps to fill four long overdue by-elections in divisions in their corporations.
CAFFE pointed out that, for more than a year, thousands of Jamaicans in these four divisions have been deprived of directly elected representation from councillors they have chosen in the three municipal corporations.
