THE High Court has agreed to fast-track a lawsuit between the Piarco Airport Taxi Co-Operative Society Ltd and the Airport Authority after the society asked for an early trial because of concerns over the health of key witnesses.
The taxi co-operative wanted to file a reply to the amended defence and to have the case set for early trial. It argued that four of its 17 witnesses, Oswald Scipio, 79; Shahadeen Mohammed, 73, a cardiac patient who had open-heart surgery in 2024; Ramesh Roopnarine, 75, who suffers from hypertension, arthritis, and mobility problems; and Eraj Sagewan, are elderly and unwell. Their testimony is central to events from the late 1980s that are critical to the claim.
Justice Marissa Robertson said the witnesses' health justified giving the case priority and scheduled the trial for March 24, 2026.
