Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has urged calm, de-escalation and adherence to international law following the recent United States military action against Venezuela, stressing that Barbados would be guided by first principles and collective regional consultation as the situation continues to unfold.
Speaking during a press conference at Ilaro Court, Mottley said Barbados regarded both Venezuela and the United States as friends, underscoring the complex diplomatic realities facing small states in times of geopolitical tension.
“Venezuela is our friend. The United States of America is our friend. In both instances, we have family relations with both countries,” she said, adding that Barbados’ foreign policy was firmly anchored in the collective positions of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
