The charred remains of 93-year-old Rosa Singh were discovered among the debris of her gutted Castillo Housing Scheme, Georgetown home, on Friday. Reports are that the nonagenarian was at home alone when a fire of unknown origin broke out in the building.
As the fire was detected, residents contacted the Guyana Fire Service (GFS), and within minutes, firefighters arrived at the scene where they observed the two-storey wooden building fully engulfed in flames.
As such, ranks from the Central Fire Station immediately went into action, and they were able to contain and extinguish the blaze. However, it was during the operation that they were made aware that the elderly woman was unaccounted for.
