Trinidad and Tobago has officially become the 125th member of the Global Biodiversity Alliance (GBA), a Guyana-led initiative aimed at strengthening international cooperation to protect and restore the world’s biodiversity.
President Irfaan Ali presented the certificate of membership to Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Friday during the Forty-Ninth Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government in Saint Lucia.
The Alliance was proposed by Guyana at the United Nations General Assembly and formally launched in 2025 as a global platform bringing together governments, Indigenous Peoples, scientists, civil society and the private sector to promote biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, sustainable financing and nature-based solutions. It also supports implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the global agreement to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
