Pensioner Ester Thompson was at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church located next door to her home when churchgoers alerted her that her home at Dubarry Branch Trace, Delhi Road, was ablaze. She walked outside and saw the house, in which she had resided since childhood, on fire.
The elderly woman’s daughter, Violet Thompson, 44, said she occupied the upper floor with her mother and her daughter, Kwesi-Anne Guada, 21. The lower floor was occupied by Thompson’s brother, Nigel Thompson, 48, his wife, Cindy Garcia-Thompson, and their children, aged 20, 18, and ten, who were also not at home as they were attending a wake.
