A Cunupia businessman has been granted bail in the sum of $75,000 after being formally charged with obtaining goods by use of a dishonoured cheque of more than $26,000.
According to a police media release Wednesday, Steve Balroop appeared before Justice of the Peace Krishna Ramkissoon at the Cunupia Police Station on May 15 where the bail was granted. He is scheduled to appear at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on June 26 to answer the charge.
The charge arises out of an incident reported by an establishment, which alleged that on May 29, 2024, Balroop purchased items valued at $26,469.06. Payment for the goods was made via a cheque issued under the account of his business. The cheque, dated May 29, 2025, was deposited into the business account and later returned dishonoured due to insufficient funds.
