Prime MinĀisĀter KamĀla PerĀsad-BissesĀsar has inĀsistĀed that maxi taxi opĀerĀaĀtors have no jusĀtiĀfiĀcaĀtion for inĀcreasĀing fares, deĀspite the GovĀernĀmentās deĀciĀsion to douĀble the toll for use of the PriĀorĀiĀty Bus Route (PBR) from JanĀuĀary 1, 2026.
The quarĀterĀly fee has risen from $300 to $600, a move that has drawn critĀiĀcism from the Route 2 Maxi Taxi AsĀsoĀciĀaĀtion. Its presĀiĀdent, BrenĀton Knights, deĀscribed the inĀcrease as a āuniĀlatĀerĀalā deĀciĀsion and warned that driĀvers are preparĀing for āstrong reĀsisĀtance.ā
HowĀevĀer, the Prime MinĀisĀter mainĀtains that the inĀcrease is negĀliĀgiĀble and should not be passed on to comĀmuters.
